The perils of technology and work
In the 8 months or so since I started HireGary.net, I've written a couple times (here and here) about blogging about and at your job. Here's a Monster article discussing the myriad pitfalls to blogging about your job.
As much as your job may royally suck, you have to watch your back. The anonymity you think you have, doesn't exist. It will get back to the wrong people sooner or later. Someone will snitch, you'll trip up or they'll just plain ol' figure out who you are and what you've been saying.
There are some really good links to legal issue of blogging at work, how to do it anonymously and ways to defend yourself should you get busted.
Listening to the radio this morning, there was a story about a marketing/PR guy for a pro sports franchise in California that had a bit of a mishap. Seems he THOUGHT he was sending an email with questionable content (racial, sexual, etc.) to his wife (and only his wife). Apparently, he doesn't know quite how to work an address book, because it went to his entire media list (radio, tv, newspaper, wire services, etc.).
Yea... he was sacked.
