Bribe the boss (and other jobsearch techniques)
Having wrapped up my jobsearch about six months ago, I can still recall the feelings of desperation when no one would send so much as a rejection letter, much less any sort of positive response.
So, I guess it doesn't really surprise me the lengths some folks will go to in order to get a job. This CNN article details some of those tactics employed by the more "creative" jobseekers out thehttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifre. Some humorous/silly, others downright bizarre.
I remember the office manager at the Weidner talking about one of the applicants for the position I eventually won... Seems they were hiring for another position that was a direct report to my position at the same time. This particular applicant called and asked them to hold off on hiring that person until they hired him/her, because s/he would really like to be involved in the process of hiring his/her own employees. And, apparently, s/he wasn't very nice about it.

At the same time, I've been know to get a tad, shall we say, creative with the jobsearch. I mean, I put up a freakin' billboard, didn't I? The picture to the right is another of my silly little ideas. Actually, I have to give some of the credit to my friend Andy Nelesen. I was applying for the Marketing Director position with Summerfest in Milwaukee.
I sent this clock adorned with Summerfest logos and a note about how I knew the fest was coming up quickly - "time was of the essence" - and that I'm your man. It landed me the interview, at least. I didn't get the job (probably for the best), but just another example of going a little above and beyond.
